The very first Earth Day occurred on April 22, 1970 after a movement of awareness took its foothold and voices were finally heard. Imagine, there was no Environmental Protection Agency, no Clean Air Act, no Clean Water Act. There were no legal or regulatory mechanisms to protect our environment. Thankfully, with global education, commitment and perseverance, the United States and the world is united as we now have Earth Month, to be “doing” for our precious big blue marble.

From the EARTHDAY.ORG’s website, “The theme for Earth Day 2022 is Invest In Our Planet™, which focuses on natural processes, emerging green technologies, and innovative thinking that can restore the world’s ecosystems. In this way, the theme rejects the notion that mitigation or adaptation are the only ways to address climate change. We need to act (boldly), innovate (broadly), and implement (equitably). It’s going to take all of us. All in. Businesses, governments, and citizens — everyone accounted for, and everyone accountable. A partnership for the planet. It is up to each and every one of us to Restore Our Earth not just because we care about the natural world, but because we live on it. We all need a healthy Earth to support our jobs, livelihoods, health & survival, and happiness. A healthy planet is not an option — it is a necessity.”

She still has a beating heart and we have it in our hands.
