“Soon You’ll Cage Me” Lithography/Mixed Media Print

I came of age in the seventies while listening to songs of the period. One song in particular,  “That’s The Way I’ve Always Heard It Should Be” by Carly Simon, has always resonated with me. This lithographic print was inspired by the mood of the period and Carly’s song. Though the social-political climate has changed, my prints echo the lyrics of the song and speak to contemporary women who face parallel issues in this new landscape.

I love that printmaking is done by hand; it's a very physical process, rolling, wiping ink on the plates and cranking them through the press. There is something very exciting about pulling a first proof of an image created from photos, and seeing the image on a beautiful piece of paper as I lift it off the plate.
