Jobi Cates

While I have been making jewelry since the 1980s, I discovered beadweaving in 2005 and was immediately hooked. My style of beadwork is “contemporary geometric,” inspired by artists who developed clever, almost intuitive techniques building on the common Peyote stitch. They offered these techniques on an “open source” platform to encourage experimentation. There are no patterns in this style, which means that each piece is unique. I’m inspired by birds and other natural forms, and I also enjoy sharing my bird photography.

Evanston Made is a non-profit arts organization dedicated to celebrating and supporting the careers of our member artists with events, exhibit opportunities and professional development. We create community by connecting our artists to the public.

Shop Evanston Made art shop was created in 2019 to make it easy to buy art from local artists and to help our artists reach a wider audience of art lovers and collectors. We also exhibit our members' work in multiple Art in Business partner locations across Evanston as well as our new storefront at 822 Dempter Street.
