Artist Statement: The need to release ourselves from our burdens of care is evidenced in the time and energy spent with these necessary duties, whether for a child, an elder long-term, or everyday household work. Such consumed time and energy can feel like unrewarded tasks, especially when they are imbalanced, unequal weights on our shoulders. Time spent this way is rarely viewed as work fit for pay. These unpaid, unrecognized chores highlight conventional gender-role inequalities affecting adolescents, especially girls as they become women. This gendered burden of care is freedom spinning, the malaise of everyday tasks seeking relief.
