Amor Caritas (Latin for Love  & Charity)
This etching is based on the winged, gilded bronze sculpture created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, at the Metropolitan Museum. The original sculpture is a bronze relief created between 1880 and 1898. While visiting the MET in New York,I felt the grander of this work. I was taken by the energetic tool marks in the angles robe.

I chose the Photopolymer Gravure process with a desire to keep the handmade feel of the sculpture. I transferred the digital image onto a light sensitive polymer plate. The etching happened when the light hit the plate, creating tiny pits that hold ink. I hand inked, wiped the plate and printed using my etching press.
