"Angel Swirl" from the Imperfect Angels Series

This piece is a part of a series of angel images are called, "Imperfect Angels." This series presents us with an image that encourages us each embrace life as it is, and to lean into our authenticity rather than perfection. Each piece starts with an intuitive painted background overlayed by a silkscreen created from an original drawing by Ellen Greene. Then layers and details are added with acrylic paint and paint pens. As an art therapist, Ellen utilizes her creative process to create images that generate light and connection in an increasingly dark world.

Ellen Greene is an artist and art therapist located in Evanston Il. Ellen's work is varied, enjoying expression in materials and forms from fashion and painting to storytelling and installations. Ellen's work has been shown in museums and galleries in the US and abroad as well as the fashion campaign for the Italian brand, Diesel. Ellen's art expression comes directly from her life's experiences, both sublime and challenging; encompassing motifs of motherhood, mental illness, spirituality, and grief. Punk, tattoo and folk art forms inspire her unique visual vocabulary. Ellen utilizes her creative process to create visual experiences that invite the viewer to share in her vulnerability and reflect on the healing power of authenticity.
