The art work titled “Urban Tower” is by artist Socorro Muciño, based in Evanston. I photographed this water tower while in Manhattan. This piece reflects my interest in architectural elements and urban landscapes often captured through experimental printmaking techniques. Sadly, Chicago area has few remaining iconic structures.
The photopolymer gravure process is a technique that uses light sensitive film. It works by exposing the film with UV light, through a transparency causing the exposed areas to harden while unexposed areas remain soft and are washed away. This print was inked, wiped and run through an etching press.
